LEMAT TECHNOLOGIES IN FIGHTING THE CORROSION OF THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS

CORROSION IS DANGEROUS! It is the greatest threat for the hydraulic systems made of steel. It attacks quickly and ruthlessly, it digs into the material, narrows down the diameter of pipes and decreases the flow rate. This results in frequent and costly breakdowns of the installation. The final effect of its destructive actions is an inevitable and complete destruction of the system. However, we are neither helpless nor convicted for irreversible results of the corrosive processes.

THE CORROSION CAN AND SHOULD BE FOUGHT. There are different methods and ideas used in the fight against corrosion. They don't bring equal effects and some of them are good in theory or in the laboratory conditions, but not always as effective in practical use. The following scheme displays the possible ways of managing the central heating installations. These schematic examples are a documentation of the effects achieved thanks to active, responsible way of managing the central heating installation under Polish conditions. However, rational management of the central heating installations requires making quick decisions about their protection. The sooner such decisions are taken, the better the results can be achieved. At some critical point the condition of the installation is so bad, that no positive effect can be achiever, regardless to the applied method. The procedures for the installations in I and II phase of exploitation consist of two basic technological stages:

Stage I CHEMICAL CLEANING OF THE INSTALLATION consisting in dissolving and removing the sediments and corrosive deposits as well as preparing the internal surface of the pipes for the second stage.

Stage II PROTECTION FROM CORROSION by installing the LEMAT electrochemical system.

click to enlarge The chart shows the reduction in the number of breakdowns after applying the LEMAT protective technologies and replacing the thermoregulation valves in 22 buildings in Ostrobramska Estate in Warsaw. These buildings were in 1999 the subject of a two-stage rescue operation created by LEMAT. The installations were chemically cleaned and afterwards the systems of electrochemical corrosion protection were installed.
